A novice to the world potentially pissing off the initiated Jun. 2nd, 2004 @ 03:02 pm

I'm Falconrath, a novice Debator. I know it's a little late in the game for this, but I have a question.
What the heck are these Debate camps I've heard about? What goes on there?

Anyone heading that way to those camps?
I'd say which team I was on, but I'm a paranoid little novice. I'll just say it's one of the teams in L.A

almost forgot:
Band: Andrew W.K
Movie: Saved!
Ice Cream: Just Chocolate

Hello everyone... Apr. 13th, 2004 @ 04:27 pm
Well, I'm in withdrawal from parli for the year, so I was hoping this would help ease the transition :-P

It's good to see that there is finally a place for NPDA folk to congregate on lj. For a long time, we were scattered about the place.

Band: Guster
Film: The Goonies
Book: Little Children: A Novel

I debated at two schools during my parli career, but I'm all done now.

This was a really great tourney. I felt like it was the first time that I didn't have something to bitch about. Usually, I find something wrong with some one or som circumstance or some decision or some ballot. This time, I have nothing to say. I felt like my feedback was all fair, all critical, and all helpful. Ryan and I didn't do very well at the tournament, but we learned a TON from it, which is what really matters. Who says debate isn't educational!!! I also got some bad ass (meaning awesome) feedback from my critics in I.E.'s. Seems like I have a lot of revamping to do. Wow, things outside of the northwest are so much more educational and critical. I like that. I hope my coaches don't feel like they wasted the school's money (I didn't break in anything :( ) because i feel like all the stuff i leanred was worth the visit. Whoot. Well, that's all i have to say about that.
» subjectivity. good? or bad?
This weekend at Pacific U. has been fun. Whoot! Ryan and I broke to octos, but dropped on a really unfavorable. Our opponents recognized they lost on the flow. But hey, appearantly a plan with no enforcement, no guarantee, no agent of action, turned contentions that went unrefuted, no advantages or impacts can win, even with 4 D.A.s and a kritik. I had straight 1's in preliminary rounds with my ADS, but took 1,5,5 in finals because two of the judges didn't like the subject matter. Sometimes I am just really annoyed by the subjectivity of this activity. It drives me NUTS. At the same time, it allows for diversity of ideas and the ever-often referenced "market place of ideas". Geh. SO frustrating. Anyway. Ryan and I are hoping that our coaches will take us to Northridge, so long as it's not on fire, though I don't think it will be. It would be nice to get out of the PAC NW for a little bit, if even just a weekend. Anyway. That's enough of a rant for me right now. I think I am done being angry.
